Session 1 : “Assessments and Care Plans and Calendars – Oh My! Speaker: Margery Lindh, MS, ACC/EDU, CDP

  • Session Description: Assessments. MDS. Resident Preferences. Regulations. Person-centered programming. Dimensions of wellness. What do these have in common? They’re all tools to help build an activity program that is meaningful to all residents in a community. Learn how to take information from the assessment and build a calendar and program that will WOW your residents, families and staff.

Session2: “What Goes Around Comes Around” Speaker: Margery Lindh, MS, ACC/EDU, CDP

  • Session Description: In other words, what’s old is now new. Timeslips, Remotivation and validation have been around for over 20 years, but have seemingly “flown under the radar”. What are these modalities and how do you use them? Have fun creating programs that are fun and different for your residents and you!

Session 3: “Live Your Best Life Through The Power of Art & Music” Speaker: Deborah Ferris, CDP, CADDCT, CMDCP

  • Session Description: Attendees will join in the creative process as we reveal how arts-based interventions yield substantial results in preserving dignity, self-expression, and enhanced quality of life for individuals with depression, mental illness, pain, dementia, developmental disabilities, and a host of other challenges- as well as those living in isolation.

Speaker Info:

Margery Lindh, MS, ACC/EDU, CDP has over 35 years of experience in activities and has worked at all levels of care – independent living, adult day care, senior centers, assisted living, memory care, geri-psych, and skilled nursing.  She’s a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with an undergraduate degree in music education and a master’s degree in Recreation Therapy and Administration. Margery is nationally certified as an activity consultant and educator, certified in the validation technique and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner.  She has taught the state-approved activity director class as well as MEPAP 1 and 2 through CPCC, and has presented workshops at the local, state and national levels. Margery is currently the Life Enrichment Manager for the Embrace Health section of Southminster, a life plan community in Charlotte, NC. Today’s program will focus on how to use information gleaned from a comprehensive assessment to create a person-centered activity calendar, and introduce some new modalities to expand an activity professional’s skillset.

Deborah Ferris,CDP,CADDCT,CMDCP is the founder & CEO of Thriving4Life, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Tennessee. The organization was founded based on her own experience caring for her mother during her sixteen-year Alzheimer’s journey. Nine of those years were spent in facility-based care. Through that gained knowledge and understanding, Deb’s dream was to provide programs that make a positive difference in the lives of individuals living in isolation, or with a variety of diagnoses and challenges, as well as those that love and care for them. This became Thriving4Life’s mission and purpose. The company’s primary focus is on music and expressive arts-based programming.

As Thriving4Life’s management leader, she is responsible for overseeing the administration, development, programs, and strategic plan of the organization and is also responsible for compliance of research requirements as they relate to Thriving4Life programs. She is a certified trainer for numerous dementia-related programming organizations. Deb spent 6 years as a regional director for an international personalized music organization, managing 9 states and writing much of the training and intellectual property.
