8:30-9:00             Registration

9:00-11:00            “Rising Above Disengagement, Toxicity, Burnout, and Fatigue.”  Speaker: Preethi Fernando

Session Description:  Disengaged, toxic work environments zap the energy from the good workers. The “physically present, emotionally absent” employee has a draining effect on others. All it takes is one toxic employee to silently “infect” the rest of the staff. It is like Carbon Monoxide poisoning: silently lethal. Once it starts spreading it is extremely difficult to “uproot” it from the work environment. Without warning the workplace gets “OD’d by the defeating dynamic. It affects employee morale, demoralizes the high functioning employee, drive out peak performers to find other jobs, and make the remaining staff feel like giving less than their best. Disengagement, toxicity, burnout, and fatigue are like weeds, that take over the beautiful landscape slowly but surely, unless they are managed and effectively addressed.

12:00-1:00            SCHCA Awards Luncheon

1:00-2:00             “When Dreams Fail Us and We Have to Re-Start from Zero”     Speaker: Preethi Fernando

Session Description:   Dreams give us hope, a purpose, a reason for getting out of bed every morning. The bigger the dream, the longer the time, effort, and energy it can take to make it a reality. From the time we are small children we dream of doing something great, traveling to cool places, becoming financially wealthy, of being happy. As our luggage becomes heavier, some of those dreams turn to dust. Some dreams get shattered. Financial hardships, the end of a marriage, being in an unhappy relationship with no end in sight, court entanglements, past memories that we would like to change, feeling overwhelmed by our responsibilities, feeling burnout can shatter our dreams. Asking in bewilderment and despair “How did I get here?” is usually an indication of our dreams falling apart and us feeling discouraged. Disappointment is inevitable. Discouragement is a choice. Many of my dreams turned to dust. My new dreams have unfolded to be greater than I ever envisioned for myself. I would like to inspire you and will show you how to tap into new dreams.
