The federal regulations require that all facilities:
- Establish an infection control program system for preventing, identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases for all residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, and other individuals providing services under a contractual arrangement based upon the facility assessment.
- Written standards, policies and procedures for the program.
- An antibiotic stewardship program that includes antibiotic use protocols and a system to monitor antibiotic use. (Phase II)
- A system for recording incidents identified under the facility’s IPCP and the corrective actions taken by the facility
- A designated Infection Preventionist(s)** (Phase III)
- QAA Committee on a regular basis, reported by Infection Preventionist(s) (Phase III)
- Annual review and update IPCP, as necessary.
Participants will receive training materials that will include an infection control manual. This program is interactive and will include exercises to enhance the learner’s comprehension of the subject matter taught.
Participants will need to bring their own personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes gowns, gloves and disposable
“At the conclusion of this training, the participants will be able to design an effective infection control and prevention program. Participants who wish can take an overall examination upon completion of this program. Upon passage of the examination, the participant will receive a certificate as an endorsed Infection Preventionist.
